Wine Laboratory Procedures

Volatile Acidity
We are working on updated and improved glassware for performing Volatile Acid analysis, as a result of work done in conjunction with Drs. Sue Ebeler and Dave Block at UC Davis.

Degassing methods for wine
Another aspect of the VA study was a regenerated interest in determining the efficacy of degassing methods for wine, and how other tests (such as alcohol or specific gravity) may be affected.  Please contact me if you would be interested in partipicating in the industry stage of this project (you would need to simply degass a few samples using your in house method and return the degassed samples).

Pounds per gallon calculations
Hoping to collaborate with the ASEV Technical Projects committee, Dr Jack Thorngate's "Gold Standard "Advanced Instrumentation Group, and Margit from Anton Paar on clarifying some issues affecting determination of pounds per gallon for wine and juice shipping.

Training in Lab Procedures

Access to basic wine analysis training should go live during the month of July.  We should have both overviews and detailed discussions/demonstrations of pH, TA, SO2, alcohol, VA, density, Brix and some general lab issues by mid July 2008.

If your company would like to participate in tailored programs which can be used in your lab meetings or for technician training and certification, please contact us
